Salado Pottery Workshop – July 2015

This class is over, sign up for my pottery workshop mailing list to be notified of future classes.

This workshop is part of the Silver City Clay Festival.

This workshop will cover the finer points of creating Salado polychrome pottery in an authentic manner. We will form and decorate pots using traditional techniques and tools, then fire in an above ground, outdoor fire. The Salado were a pueblo people who lived in Southeast Arizona and Southwest New Mexico from 1275 to 1450 and created beautiful painted pottery. In this workshop, we will recreate these pottery types using all authentic tools and materials, finally firing our work outdoors in a mesquite wood firing. Students will leave with a better understanding of this ancient art form, the culture that made it, and one or two pots to take home.

July 28, 29 and 31.
Silver City, New Mexico
